“The trip completely exceeded our expectations, even despite it not being ‘peak season’ we were able to tick off Africa’s Big 5 on the very first game drive. This was in no small part down to our guide, Bonnie…”

Planning a Kenya safari from Ireland

Book Direct, Not Through a Dublin Agent

The majority of Kenya safaris sold in Ireland are resold. A travel agent takes the booking, marks up the price and passes it to a Nairobi operator who runs the trip. We are that operator. When you book direct with us, your money goes to the safari and the guiding, not to a second office in between. Our head guides Boniface Kamau and John Mithamo have each spent more than 20 years in these parks, and every trip is private from the airport to the drop-off.

Add the Coast: Safari and Beach

Many Irish trips end on the Indian Ocean, and Kenya makes that easy. After the safari you move to the coast and swap game drives for white sand. Diani, south of Mombasa, has the best beaches and a line of all-inclusive resorts built for families; the Mombasa north coast is the other option. Adding beach time at the end is common, and many families keep the safari short and the beach long. Flights home often leave from Mombasa, so it makes a natural end to the trip. See how we pair the two on our safari and beach holidays page.

What Is Included

Every safari is private and all-inclusive: park and conservancy fees, accommodation, all meals on safari, game drives with a dedicated driver-guide, and airport transfers. We handle all transfers between parks, so you do nothing on the ground.

Domestic flights are quoted separately, since depending on your route you may drive the circuit or fly parts of it. International flights from Dublin, your Kenya eTA and tips are not included.

Best Time to Go

The dry, high-wildlife months are June to October and January to February. The migration is in the Masai Mara from about July to October, with the river crossings peaking July to September.

The Irish summer break, late June to the end of August, is the most popular time for Irish families, and lodges book up early. The October mid-term and the Christmas holidays fall in the green season, when the parks are lush and less crowded. The February mid-term catches the second dry spell and good big-cat viewing. April and May bring the long rains, quiet and green, and suit photographers. If your dates are set by school terms, book well ahead for the summer and Christmas holidays.

Your eTA and Getting There

There are no direct flights from Dublin. Each route has one stop and total travel time is about 14 hours, connecting through Doha, Istanbul, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Abu Dhabi or Dubai. We meet you at Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta airport. Many guests spend their first night at a Nairobi hotel before the safari starts, which we can book. Kenya is only two to three hours ahead of Ireland, so the jet lag is mild.

Irish citizens do not need a visa, but they do need an Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA). Apply online well ahead, since approval can take a few business days. Your passport must be valid six months beyond entry with two blank pages, and passport cards are not accepted. Apply only through the official Kenya eTA portal, since copycat sites add their own charges. The rules are set out on the Department of Foreign Affairs’ Kenya travel advice page. After you book, we send you the steps.

With years of experience guiding travellers across Kenya, we know that the finest safaris are built on attention to detail, knowledgeable guides, and a genuine passion for sharing our country’s extraordinary wildlife and scenery. Boniface Kamau, Lead Guide.

Yes, and many Irish guests do. Adding time at Diani or on the Mombasa coast after the safari is a popular way to finish.

Yes. Family rooms and a private vehicle make it one of the more manageable long-haul family trips. Some camps set a minimum age, so we match lodges to your children’s ages.

The river crossings usually run July to October, during the dry season.
