Itinerary

  • Day 1: Nairobi to Masai Mara National Reserve

    Travel Time: Approximately 5-6 hours

    Meals: Lunch & Dinner

Your Kenyan safari adventure begins early in the morning with a pickup from your Nairobi hotel. You'll embark on a scenic drive towards the world-renowned Masai Mara National Reserve. The journey takes you through the Great Rift Valley, offering breathtaking views of the escarpment and the valley floor below. You'll pass through traditional Maasai villages, providing glimpses into the local culture.

Upon reaching the Masai Mara, you'll check into the Muthu Keekorok Lodge or a similar accommodation. This camp offers a perfect blend of comfort and wilderness immersion, with spacious tents featuring en-suite bathrooms and private verandas overlooking the savannah.

After settling in and enjoying a delicious lunch at the camp, you'll have some time to relax and acclimate to your new surroundings. In the late afternoon, you'll set out on your first game drive into the Mara ecosystem. As the day cools, animals become more active, increasing your chances of exciting sightings.

Your experienced guide will navigate the vast plains, searching for the diverse wildlife that calls the Mara home. Keep your eyes peeled for lions lounging in the grass, herds of elephants moving majestically across the landscape, and if you're lucky, perhaps a leopard hiding in an acacia tree. As the sun begins to set, you'll make your way back to the camp.

Dinner and overnight stay at Muthu Keekorok Lodge or similar.

  • Day 2: Full Day in Masai Mara

    Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Wake up to the sounds of the bush coming to life as the sun rises over the Mara. After an early breakfast at the camp, you'll depart for a full day of game drives in the Masai Mara National Reserve.

The Mara is at its most active in the early morning hours. You might spot big cats returning from their nightly hunts or herbivores grazing in the cool morning air. Your guide will share in-depth knowledge about the ecosystem and the behaviors of the animals you encounter.

Throughout the day, you'll explore different areas of the reserve, each offering unique landscapes and wildlife viewing opportunities. The Mara River, famous for the wildebeest crossings during the Great Migration, is a year-round hotspot for hippos and crocodiles.

You'll enjoy a picnic lunch in the heart of the savannah, surrounded by the sights and sounds of the wild.

In the afternoon, continue your game drive, perhaps focusing on finding some of the more elusive species like cheetahs or black rhinos. Your guide will also point out some of the 500+ bird species that call the Mara home.

As the day draws to a close, return to Muthu Keekorok Lodge for dinner and relaxation. You might choose to gather around the campfire, sharing stories with other guests and listening to tales of the Mara from the local Maasai staff.

  • Day 3: Maasai Mara to Lake Nakuru National Park

    Travel Time: Approximately 5-6 hours

    Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Begin your day with an early breakfast at the camp, soaking in your last views of the Mara plains. After check-out, you'll embark on a journey to Lake Nakuru National Park.

The drive takes you back through the Great Rift Valley, offering different perspectives of this geological wonder. You'll pass by Lake Naivasha and climb the Mau Escarpment before descending into the Lake Nakuru basin.

Upon arrival at Lake Nakuru National Park, you'll check into the Flamingo Hill Camp or a similar accommodation. This intimate tented camp is situated within the park, offering excellent wildlife viewing opportunities right from your doorstep.

After lunch and a short rest, set out for a late afternoon game drive around Lake Nakuru. The park is famous for its flamingo populations, which can sometimes number in the millions, creating a stunning pink fringe around the lake's shores. However, the lake's alkalinity fluctuates, affecting flamingo numbers, so sightings can vary.

Lake Nakuru is also one of the best places in Kenya to spot both black and white rhinos. Your guide will be on the lookout for these endangered species, as well as the diverse other wildlife that calls the park home, including lions, leopards, hippos, and numerous antelope species.

As the sun sets, return to Flamingo Hill Camp for dinner and overnight stay.

  • Day 4: Lake Nakuru to Amboseli National Park

    Travel Time: Approximately 6-7 hours

    Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Rise early for breakfast and a final short game drive around Lake Nakuru if time permits. Then, begin your journey to Amboseli National Park, home to some of Kenya's largest elephant herds.

The drive takes you south, passing through Nairobi and continuing towards the Tanzanian border. You'll notice the landscape changing, becoming drier and more rugged as you approach Amboseli.

Arrive at Amboseli Sopa Lodge or a similar accommodation in the afternoon. The lodge offers stunning views of Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest peak, which forms a dramatic backdrop to the park.

After checking in and enjoying lunch, head out for an introductory game drive in Amboseli National Park. The park is known for its excellent elephant viewing opportunities, with large herds often seen against the backdrop of Kilimanjaro.

Your guide will navigate the network of trails that crisscross the park, pointing out wildlife and explaining the unique ecosystem of Amboseli. The park's swamps and springs, fed by underground rivers from Kilimanjaro's melting snow, attract a wealth of animals and birds.

As the day winds down, return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

  • Day 5: Full Day in Amboseli

    Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Today is dedicated to exploring Amboseli National Park in depth. After an early breakfast, head out for a morning game drive. The early hours offer the best chance of clear views of Kilimanjaro before the clouds roll in.

Your guide will take you to different areas of the park, each offering unique wildlife viewing opportunities. Visit the Observation Hill, which provides panoramic views over the entire park and is an excellent spot for bird watching.

Amboseli's large elephant population will be a focus of your game drives. These elephants are known for their impressive tusks, and you'll have the chance to observe their social behaviors up close. Your guide will share insights into elephant communication, family structures, and their vital role in the ecosystem.

Return to the lodge for lunch and a brief rest during the heat of the day. In the afternoon, venture out again for another game drive. In addition to elephants, keep an eye out for lions, cheetahs, zebras, wildebeest, and the numerous bird species that call Amboseli home.

As your last full day on safari, take time to soak in the beauty of the African wilderness. Your guide can help you find perfect photo opportunities, capturing memories that will last a lifetime.

Return to Amboseli Sopa Lodge for a special farewell dinner and overnight stay.

  • Day 6: Amboseli to Nairobi

    Meals: Breakfast & Lunch

Rise early for a pre-breakfast game drive, offering a final opportunity to experience Amboseli in the soft morning light. This is often the best time to spot predators and to enjoy clear views of Kilimanjaro before the day's heat brings cloud cover.

Return to the lodge for breakfast and check-out. Bid farewell to Amboseli as you begin your journey back to Nairobi. The drive gives you time to reflect on your safari adventures and the incredible wildlife you've encountered.

You'll arrive in Nairobi in the afternoon, where you'll be dropped off at your hotel or the airport, depending on your onward plans.
