Kenya Safari and Beach Holidays from Russia

The best way to combine a Kenya safari with a beach holiday from Russia is to do the game drives first and finish with three to five nights on the coast. Ten days is a comfortable length. Diani suits most people, and Watamu is a good alternative if you prefer somewhere smaller.

Which beach to choose

Diani Beach, south of Mombasa, has long white sand and a wide choice of hotels. It is the easiest choice and the one we use most. Watamu, north of Mombasa, is smaller and quieter. Mombasa itself gives you the Old Town and Fort Jesus, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, close by, and the 9-day trip below spends its last three nights there.

Three routes that work

8 days, from $2,570. Tsavo West and Amboseli, then Watamu. This is the shortest option, and it suits you if you want elephants and Kilimanjaro views and do not mind missing the Mara.

9 days, from $2,000. The Mara and Amboseli, then Mombasa. This covers Kenya’s two best-known parks and costs the least.

10 days, from $2,800. Amboseli and Tsavo East, then five nights at Diani. This gives you the longest stay on the beach.

Escaping the Russian winter

January and February are the obvious months. Kenya is in a short dry season, game viewing is strong, and the coast is warm while Moscow is at its coldest. Those months also fall in our lower price season. Wildlife depends on the conditions and no sighting can be promised, but the Mara’s big cats are there all year, even when the migration is not.

If the wildebeest migration is your main reason for coming, aim for late July to October. That is the long dry season, and you should book early.

How the last day works

Think about your flight home before you pick a beach. Some trips end at Mombasa airport, and others bring you back to Nairobi. Flights home from Mombasa can mean a different connection from the one you arrived on, so check your options in our guide to flights from Russia.
