Itinerary
-
Day 1: Nairobi to Masai Mara National Reserve
Travel Time: 5-6 Hour Drive
Meals: Lunch & Dinner
Your safari adventure begins with an early morning pickup from your Nairobi hotel or the airport. Board your comfortable safari vehicle and set off for the world-famous Masai Mara National Reserve. The journey takes you through the Great Rift Valley, offering breathtaking views of the vast landscape. Your driver-guide will make stops at scenic viewpoints, allowing you to stretch your legs and capture photos of the dramatic escarpments and valleys.
As you approach the Masai Mara, the landscape transforms into rolling grasslands dotted with acacia trees - the classic East African savanna. Arrive at your chosen lodge in time for lunch, where you'll be welcomed with a refreshing drink and a brief orientation. After settling into your accommodations, enjoy a delicious lunch featuring both international and local cuisines.
In the late afternoon, embark on your first game drive in the Masai Mara. As the day cools, animals become more active, increasing your chances of exciting sightings. Keep your eyes peeled for lions lounging in the grass, herds of elephants moving majestically across the savanna, or perhaps a leopard hiding in an acacia tree. As the sun begins to set, enjoy sundowner drinks at a picturesque spot in the bush before returning to the lodge for a gourmet dinner under the stars.
-
Day 2: Full Day in Masai Mara National Reserve
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Rise early to the sounds of the bush awakening. After a quick coffee or tea, set off on an early morning game drive when the wildlife is most active. Watch as the rising sun paints the savanna in golden hues, providing perfect lighting for photography. Your guide will seek out predators returning from their nightly hunts or herbivores grazing in the cool morning air. Return to the lodge for a hearty breakfast and some time to relax by the pool or on your private veranda.
After lunch at the lodge, head out for an afternoon game drive, exploring a different area of the reserve. Visit the Mara River, famous for dramatic wildebeest crossings during the Great Migration (seasonal). Your guide will explain the intricacies of the ecosystem and point out smaller creatures often overlooked, from colorful birds to curious mongooses. As the afternoon progresses, search for cheetahs scanning the plains from termite mounds or giraffes browsing on acacia trees.
For those seeking extra adventure, optional activities (additional cost) include a visit to a local Maasai village to learn about their traditional way of life, or a dawn hot air balloon safari offering a bird's eye view of the Mara (must be booked in advance).
Return to the lodge as the sun sets for dinner and an evening of relaxation. Fall asleep to the distant sounds of lions roaring and hyenas whooping - a true African lullaby.
-
Day 3: Masai Mara to Amboseli National Park
Travel Time: 7-8 Hour Drive
Meals: Breakfast, Packed Lunch & Dinner
After an early breakfast, bid farewell to the Masai Mara and begin your journey to Amboseli National Park. This is a long but scenic drive that will take you through rural Kenya, offering glimpses into local life and ever-changing landscapes. Your driver-guide will provide commentary on the regions you pass through, from small towns to agricultural areas.
Enjoy a packed lunch en route, making stops at viewpoints or local markets if time allows. As you approach Amboseli, keep an eye out for your first glimpse of Mount Kilimanjaro, weather permitting. The snow-capped peak of Africa's highest mountain forms a stunning backdrop to the park.
Arrive at your Amboseli lodge in the late afternoon. After check-in and some time to freshen up, enjoy a short evening game drive if time permits, or relax at the lodge, taking in views of the wildlife coming to nearby waterholes. Dinner will be served at the lodge, often featuring a mix of international cuisine and local specialties.
-
Day 4: Full Day in Amboseli National Park
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Wake up early to catch the majestic view of Mount Kilimanjaro at sunrise, weather permitting. After breakfast, set out for a full day of game viewing in Amboseli National Park, famous for its large elephant herds. The park's swamps and plains offer a chance to get close to these gentle giants, often framed against the backdrop of Kilimanjaro.
In addition to elephants, look out for lions, cheetahs, giraffes, zebras, and numerous bird species. The park's marshes attract a variety of waterbirds, including pelicans and flamingos. Your guide will find a scenic spot for a picnic lunch, allowing you to dine surrounded by the beauty of the African wilderness.
In the afternoon, visit the Observation Hill, which offers panoramic views of the entire park, including the swamps and marshland with buffalo, hippos, and a variety of birdlife. As the day cools, watch for animals gathering at waterholes for their evening drink.
Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight, reflecting on the day's incredible sightings and photographic opportunities.
-
Day 5: Amboseli to Tsavo West National Park
Travel Time: 3-4 Hour Drive
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
After breakfast, depart for Tsavo West National Park. This drive is relatively short, allowing for game viewing opportunities along the way. As you enter Tsavo, the landscape changes dramatically, with volcanic hills, lava flows, and unique baobab trees dotting the scenery.
Arrive at your lodge in time for lunch and some relaxation time. In the afternoon, embark on a game drive in Tsavo West. The park is known for its population of "red elephants," named for the red volcanic soil they spray on themselves. Keep an eye out for these unique creatures, as well as lions, leopards, buffaloes, and a variety of antelopes.
Visit the Mzima Springs, a series of natural springs and a famous spot to observe hippos and crocodiles from an underwater viewing chamber. As the day winds down, enjoy a sundowner with views of the Chyulu Hills before returning to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
-
Day 6: Tsavo West to Tsavo East National Park

Begin your day with an early morning game drive in Tsavo West, followed by breakfast at the lodge. Then, make your way to Tsavo East National Park, the larger of the two Tsavo parks. The drive between the parks offers continuous opportunities for wildlife viewing.
Arrive at your Tsavo East lodge in time for lunch. In the afternoon, set out for a game drive in this vast wilderness. Tsavo East is characterized by semi-arid grasslands and savanna, providing excellent visibility for wildlife spotting. Look for large elephant herds, lions, leopards, and the critically endangered hirola antelope, found only in this region.
Visit the Galana River, a lifeline for the park's wildlife, especially during the dry season. Watch crocodiles basking on the banks and animals coming to drink. As the sun sets, return to the lodge for dinner and your last night in the bush, savoring the sounds and smells of the African night.
-
Day 7: Tsavo East to Nairobi
Travel Time: 5-6 Hour Drive
Meals: Breakfast & Lunch
Rise early for one last game drive in Tsavo East, maximizing your chances of spotting any wildlife you might have missed. Return to the lodge for breakfast and check-out. Begin your journey back to Nairobi, with the option to stop at the Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary en route if time permits.
Enjoy a packed lunch or stop at a local restaurant along the way. As you approach Nairobi, the landscape gradually shifts from wilderness to farmland and then to urban sprawl. Your guide will be happy to answer any final questions about the wildlife, cultures, or landscapes you've encountered during your safari.
Arrive in Nairobi in the late afternoon, where you'll be dropped off at your hotel or the airport, marking the end of your comprehensive Kenyan safari adventure. Depart with unforgettable memories of Kenya's diverse landscapes and incredible wildlife.
