Flights from Canada to Kenya: Routes, Times and Fares

Kenya Safari with Domestic Flights

There are no direct flights from Canada to Kenya. The fastest routes from Toronto take about 19 hours with one stop, and recent return fares have started at around C$1,335 in economy, though many dates cost more. From the west coast, allow longer.

Since it is a long trip, we suggest at least seven nights on the ground. Our Kenya safaris from Canada page sets out the trips that make the journey worthwhile.

Routes from Toronto

Momondo shows Ethiopian Airlines through Addis Ababa as the fastest option at around 18 hours 50 minutes. Air Canada and Lufthansa are popular choices, and Kenya Airways, Turkish Airlines and Etihad also appear on the route.

Ethiopian was showing return fares from C$1,897 for travel between November and January when we checked, and KLM advertises flights from Canada to Kenya through Amsterdam. Fares move quickly, and February and March have been among the cheaper months.

Flying from elsewhere in Canada

From Vancouver, Calgary or Montreal, you will often connect in a Canadian city or in Europe as well as your main hub, which can mean two stops. Try to keep the whole journey on one ticket, so the airline looks after you if a connection is missed.

Compare total journey time as well as price. A cheap fare with a long layover can cost you a day of your safari.

Connections to avoid

This matters more than usual right now. Canada’s Ebola border measures cover Uganda, South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and they apply even if you only transit one of those countries. Kenya is not on the list as of November 2026, but a routing through Entebbe would be, and the measures run until at least 27 November.

Also avoid connecting through Saudi Arabia on the way home, because entry is banned for anyone who was in Kenya in the previous 21 days. We cover the rest in Kenya travel requirements for Canadians.

Arriving in Nairobi

Nairobi is seven or eight hours ahead of Toronto and ten or eleven ahead of Vancouver, depending on the time of year. After a trip this long, try to land the day before your safari starts. We can book a hotel for that night, and we meet you at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your transfer. Some trips, such as our 7-day luxury safari, already include an arrival day.

When to book

Book your safari dates first, then your flights. Camps fill quickly between late July and October, and our guide to the best time for a Kenya safari from Canada compares summer, March break and winter. We do not normally book international flights, but we can help if you ask.

If you are putting your money into the safari itself, our list of the best camps in each park shows where it goes furthest.
