Trip overview

This exclusive 5-day safari takes you on a journey through two of Kenya’s most striking national parks: Amboseli and Tsavo West. Begin your adventure in Amboseli, a park famed for its large elephant herds and unparalleled views of Mount Kilimanjaro. Here, you’ll witness the juxtaposition of dusty plains against the snow-capped peak of Africa’s highest mountain, creating a backdrop that seems almost surreal.

From Amboseli, you’ll venture into the vast wilderness of Tsavo West, a park known for its dramatic scenery, from volcanic hills to natural springs. Tsavo is home to the legendary ‘red elephants’, their hides stained by the rich ochre soil. The park’s diverse habitats support an incredible array of wildlife, offering a different but equally mesmerizing safari experience.

Throughout your journey, you’ll stay at luxurious safari lodges. Amboseli Serena Lodge in Amboseli and Salt Lick Safari Lodge in Tsavo West both offer an unparalleled blend of comfort and wilderness immersion. From gourmet meals to expert guides, every aspect of your safari is carefully curated to provide an unforgettable experience.

Your route

Amboseli 2 nights · Tsavo West 2 nights. Starts and ends in Nairobi.

Long drive days? Ask about flying between parks instead. It can save most of a day.

Day-by-day itinerary

4-5 Hour Drive · Meals: Lunch & Dinner

Your safari adventure begins with an early morning pick-up from your Nairobi hotel or the airport. As you leave the busy city behind, you’ll drive south towards Amboseli National Park, a journey of about 4-5 hours. The drive itself is an experience, offering glimpses into rural Kenyan life as you pass through small towns and villages.

As you approach Amboseli, the scenery becomes increasingly arid, punctuated by the occasional acacia tree. And then, if the weather is clear, you’ll catch your first glimpse of Mount Kilimanjaro looming on the horizon, a sight that never fails to take one’s breath away.

You’ll arrive at your camp in time for lunch. This eco-friendly camp is set on the southwestern edge of the park, offering some of the finest views of Kilimanjaro. The camp consists of spacious tented suites, each handcrafted and decorated in stylish safari style. After lunch, take some time to settle in and perhaps enjoy a siesta during the heat of the day.

In the late afternoon, set out on your first game drive. Amboseli is renowned for its elephant population, and it’s not uncommon to see large herds crossing the dusty plains, their shapes silhouetted against Kilimanjaro. Your expert guide will help you spot and identify various wildlife, from graceful giraffes to stalking lions.

Dinner and overnight stay at Amboseli Serena Safari Lodge, Ol Tukai Lodge, Amboseli Sopa Lodge, or equivalent.

Full Day in Amboseli · Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Wake up early to the sounds of the bush coming alive. If you’re an early riser, you might catch the sunrise over Kilimanjaro from your private veranda, a truly magical sight. After a light breakfast, head out for a morning game drive when the animals are most active.

Amboseli’s habitat is special, fed by underground springs from Kilimanjaro’s melting snow. This creates a series of marshes and plains that attract a rich variety of wildlife. Besides the famous elephants, you might spot lions basking in the morning sun, cheetahs scanning the plains for prey, or hundreds of pink flamingos feeding in the shallow lakes.

Mid-morning, you’ll stop at a scenic spot for a bush breakfast, complete with hot coffee and freshly made pancakes. Continue your game drive, visiting different areas of the park. Your guide will share insights about the habitat, the wildlife, and the Maasai people who have lived alongside these animals for centuries.

Return to camp for lunch and some relaxation time. You might want to take a dip in the pool, enjoy a massage, or simply relax on your veranda with a good book.

In the afternoon, visit the Observation Hill, which offers panoramic views of the entire park. From here, you can see the network of swamps and plains that make Amboseli such a haven for wildlife. As the day cools, animals become more active again, offering excellent viewing opportunities.

Dinner and overnight stay at Amboseli Serena Safari Lodge, Ol Tukai Lodge, Amboseli Sopa Lodge, or equivalent.

3-4 Hour Drive · Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

After an early breakfast, bid farewell to Amboseli and begin your journey to Tsavo West National Park. The drive takes about 3-4 hours, but it’s a fascinating one. You’ll pass through local villages and changing scenery, offering a glimpse into rural Kenyan life.

As you enter Tsavo West, you’ll notice a dramatic change in scenery. Unlike Amboseli’s open plains, Tsavo West is a land of volcanic hills, natural springs, and dense bush. This varied scenery supports an incredible diversity of wildlife.

You’ll arrive at Salt Lick Safari Lodge, your luxury lodge for the next two nights, in time for lunch. Salt Lick Safari Lodge offers special wildlife viewing from raised rooms on stilts. Its waterhole attracts animals, especially elephants, providing immersive safari experiences near Tsavo West National Park.

After lunch and some time to settle in, set out for an afternoon game drive. Tsavo West is home to all of the Big Five, but it’s particularly known for its ‘red elephants’. These elephants appear red due to the rich terracotta-colored soil they dust themselves with.

Your guide will take you through the rugged terrain, pointing out wildlife and explaining the special aspects of Tsavo’s habitat. Keep an eye out for lesser kudus, with their distinctive white stripes, or perhaps the graceful gerenuk antelope, known for its ability to stand on its hind legs to browse high branches. Afterwards, return to camp for a gourmet dinner, perhaps followed by stargazing around the campfire.

Full Day in Tsavo West · Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Rise early for a dawn game drive, often the best time to spot predators. You might see a pride of lions returning from a night hunt or a leopard lounging in a tree with its kill. Return to camp for a late breakfast on the terrace, overlooking the springs where hippos and crocodiles often bask.

Spend the middle of the day at leisure. The lodge offers a range of activities. You might want to relax by the infinity pool, enjoy a spa treatment, or participate in a cooking class to learn about Kenyan cuisine.

In the afternoon, visit the famous Mzima Springs. These natural springs produce an incredible 250 million liters of fresh water a day, creating an oasis in the arid park. An underwater viewing chamber allows you to observe hippos and crocodiles in their natural habitat, a special and thrilling experience.

Continue your game drive, exploring different areas of the park. Tsavo West’s varying scenery, from open grasslands to rocky outcrops, support a wide range of wildlife. Your guide will help you spot and identify various species, from the tiny dik-dik antelope to the majestic African elephant.

As the day cools, head to Shetani Lava Flow for your sundowner. This vast expanse of folded black lava, the result of volcanic activity about 200 years ago, offers a dramatic backdrop for sunset drinks. Your guide will explain the geological history of the area and its significance to local communities.

Dinner and overnight stay at Salt Lick Safari Lodge.

5-6 Hour Drive · Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

On your final morning, you have the option of a last game drive or a leisurely breakfast at camp. If you choose the game drive, it’s a chance to tick off any wildlife you might have missed or to simply soak in the beauty of the African bush one last time.

After breakfast, begin the journey back to Nairobi. The drive takes about 5-6 hours, but it offers a last chance to see the changing Kenyan scenery. Your guide will be happy to stop at points of interest along the way.

You’ll arrive in Nairobi in the late afternoon, where you’ll be dropped off at your hotel or the airport for your onward journey.

A Couple in December 2025 - 5 Stars We booked with Stanley and Majestic Safari for the 6-day luxury tour through Masai Mara, Lake Naivasha and Amboseli. The trip completely exceeded our expectations, even despite it not being ‘peak season’ we were able to tick off Africa’s Big 5 on the very first game drive. This was in no small part down to our guide, Bonnie, who was an essential part of tracking these animals - you have to request him if booking through Majestic. Each accommodation also exceeded our expectations in terms of location, comfort, quality and service of the staff. Being a first time safari for us, we weren’t sure what to expect - but selecting the luxury option was well worth it. All aspects of travel and organisation was seamless. Once booked, there was next to nothing for us to think about as we were in experienced hands - and we were glad to have partnered with Majestic as there was significantly more organisation required in the background than we originally realised. Stanley also went above and beyond the itinerary, picking us up from the airport late at night despite the tour not starting until a few days later and ensuring we had some food to take into the hotel. This was after providing us with in-depth packing lists and general guidance on exploring Nairobi. I couldn’t recommend Majestic enough and hope to arrange another trip with Stanley in the future.

A Beautiful Safari with an Excellent Guide – Just Check the Route First Majestic Kenyan Safaris gave us a wonderful Kenya experience, and our guide was genuinely lovely. He was calm, kind, and extremely knowledgeable about the wildlife, parks, and local environment, which made the safari both engaging and meaningful. One thing worth noting for future travellers is the itinerary structure. Over the six-day safari, the route involved long drives in a zig-zag pattern rather than a simple circular loop. This meant more transit time on some days. This was not the fault of the company or the guide, as the itinerary was clearly outlined, but something we wish we had paid closer attention to when booking. Overall, Majestic Kenyan Safaris were professional, warm, and well organised. With careful attention to route planning beforehand, they offer a truly memorable safari experience.

The most Unforgettable Safari Stanley Gichuki crafted the journey of dreams Thanks to our incredible guide, Bonie whose fearless spirit turned every mile into magic. He welcomed us in Samburu National Park and led us off the beaten path with a deep, soulful knowledge of the land, its stories, its rhythms, its wild heart. Samburu was our favorite in terms of landscape. We stood in awe in Samburu as reticulated giraffes swept across the horizon, watched Grevy’s zebras stride with quiet elegance, and felt the earth tremble beneath African elephants. We held our breath as a cheetah emerged from the tall grass, and we followed Kamau Boniethrough wet, treacherous tracks to where lions rule their hidden kingdom. Our journey continued into Ol Pejeta Conservancy, a sanctuary of hope, where we encountered the gentle wisdom of chimpanzees at the Jane Goodall, Sweetwater Chimpanzee Sanctuary, and witnessed the immense beauty of both white and black rhinos, alongside more elephants, more lions… and countless unforgettable moments. Our journey ended in the Maasai Mara . Our last drive was unforgettabel as we watched a cheetah devouring a thompson gazelle, leaving the rest of the kill to a fight between two jackals and a flock of vultures. We had a brief encounter with a leopard walking down a river and watched more lions enjoying their buffalo lunch. Truly memorable experiences. Kenya, you are once in a lifetime. Thank you

Safari with Majestick Kenya We just returned from a 9 days safari, and we enjoyed it very much. Everything was arranged very well, our driver/guide Bonnie was outstanding. The tour company did everything to be helpfull in picking up from the airport, taking us with their jeep to all the place we visited, and we had very nice game drives. We went to Samburu, Oj Pejeta, Lake Nakuru and Masai Mara. The lodges were great, good value for money and we were upgraded in 2 places. Thank you Majestick, and al your staff. We highly recommend you.

Amazing Safari Experience! Just got back from an amazing 7-day safari with Majestic Kenya Safaris! Our guide Samuel was fantastic - incredible wildlife knowledge and spotted animals from miles away. We saw the Big Five, including a pride of lions with cubs in the Maasai Mara. Everything was perfectly organized from airport transfers to accommodations. The mix of lodges and tented camps was great, and falling asleep to African bush sounds was magical. Vehicle was comfortable for the longer drives between parks. One activity got cancelled due to weather, but they quickly arranged something even better. Would definitely recommend to anyone planning a Kenya safari - unforgettable experience!

Best Safari experience! Majestic Kenya Safaris in Nairobi exceeded all my expectations! From the moment we booked, their team was incredibly professional and attentive, ensuring every detail was taken care of. The safari itself was breathtaking—our guide was knowledgeable, friendly, and knew the best spots for wildlife viewing. We saw the Big Five up close, along with stunning landscapes that felt like something out of a dream. The accommodations were luxurious yet blended seamlessly with nature. What stood out most was their genuine passion for conservation and community support. I highly recommend Majestic Kenya Safaris for an unforgettable, world-class experience in Kenya!
