Flights from Mexico to Kenya: Routes, Times and Fares

There are no direct flights from Mexico to Kenya. From Mexico City you connect at least once, usually in Europe or the Gulf, and the whole journey takes well over 20 hours. KLM through Amsterdam is often the simplest route, with return fares that have started at around MXN 24,000.

Routes from Mexico City

Skyscanner confirms that no airline flies non-stop between Mexico City and Nairobi, and most itineraries have one stop. KLM and Air France appear most often, connecting in Amsterdam or Paris. From Amsterdam, KLM and Kenya Airways fly non-stop to Nairobi in about eight and a half hours.

KLM was showing a return fare from MXN 23,979 for late August when we checked. Fares move quickly, so treat that as a guide. Emirates also serves the route through Dubai, though its listed journeys are much longer.

Connections to check

Keep the whole journey on one ticket if you can, so the airline rebooks you if a connection is missed. If your route connects in Kenya on the way to another country, you need a transit eTA, according to the Mexican embassy in Nairobi.

Avoid routing home through Saudi Arabia for now. Saudi authorities have banned entry for anyone who was in Kenya in the previous 21 days. Our guide to Kenya travel requirements for Mexican citizens covers the rest of the entry and health picture.

Arriving in Nairobi

Kenya is nine hours ahead of Mexico City. After a journey this long, land the day before your safari starts. We meet you at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and can book a Nairobi hotel for that first night.

If your trip includes a flight to the Mara, it leaves from Wilson Airport, Nairobi’s domestic airport, and light aircraft limit luggage to about 15kg in a soft bag.

When to book
