Itinerary

  • Day 1: Nairobi to Amboseli

    4-5 Hour Drive
    Meals: Lunch & Dinner

Your safari adventure begins with an early morning departure from Nairobi. As we drive southeast towards Amboseli National Park, you'll witness the landscape transform from bustling city outskirts to rural farmlands, and finally to the semi-arid bush country. Keep your eyes peeled for wildlife along the roadside as we approach the park. We'll make a brief stop at a scenic viewpoint, offering a taste of the breathtaking vistas to come.

Upon arrival at Kimana Amboseli Tented Camp, you'll be welcomed with a refreshing drink and have time to settle into your comfortable tent. After a hearty lunch, we'll set out for our first game drive in Amboseli. The park is renowned for its large elephant herds, often seen against the backdrop of Mount Kilimanjaro. Your expert guide will navigate the diverse habitats, from dried lake beds to wetlands, in search of zebras, wildebeest, giraffes, and numerous bird species. As the sun sets, painting the sky in vibrant hues, we'll return to camp for a delicious dinner and a chance to share your first day's experiences around the campfire.

  • Day 2: Full day in Amboseli

    Game Drives
    Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Wake up to the sounds of the African bush coming alive. We'll start with an early morning game drive when the animals are most active. The soft morning light provides perfect conditions for photography. Keep your binoculars ready as we search for predators returning from their nightly hunts - you might spot lions lounging in the grass or a sleek cheetah scanning the plains. We'll also visit the Observation Hill, which offers panoramic views of the entire park and its surrounding wetlands.

After returning to camp for a late breakfast and some relaxation time, we'll head out for an afternoon game drive. This time, we'll focus on the eastern side of the park, known for its high concentration of elephants. Watch these magnificent creatures interact in family groups, splash in the marshes, and feast on acacia trees. Your guide will share fascinating insights about elephant behavior and their crucial role in the ecosystem. As the day cools, other animals become more active, and we'll be on the lookout for buffalo, hippos, and if we're lucky, the elusive leopard. We'll find a scenic spot to watch the sun set behind Kilimanjaro before returning to camp for dinner.

  • Day 3: Amboseli to Lake Naivasha

    5-6 Hour Drive
    Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

After an early breakfast, we bid farewell to Amboseli and embark on a scenic drive to Lake Naivasha. The journey takes you through the heart of Kenya, offering glimpses of rural life and changing landscapes. As we approach the Great Rift Valley, we'll stop at a viewpoint for a photographic opportunity of this massive geological feature. Your guide will explain the formation of the Rift Valley and its importance to East African ecology.

Arriving at Naivasha Kongoni Lodge in the afternoon, you'll have time for lunch and to settle into your new surroundings. The lodge, set on the shores of Lake Naivasha, offers beautiful views and a chance to spot some of the area's abundant birdlife from your room. In the late afternoon, you can choose between a boat ride on the lake or a guided nature walk. The boat ride brings you close to pods of hippos and numerous water birds, while the nature walk allows you to stretch your legs and perhaps spot some of the area's monkeys and terrestrial birds. As evening falls, enjoy dinner at the lodge restaurant, reflecting on the day's journey and the diverse landscapes you've traversed.

  • Day 4: Lake Naivasha to Masai Mara

    5-6 Hour Drive
    Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

We'll start early, departing after breakfast for the world-famous Masai Mara. The drive takes you deeper into the Great Rift Valley and through the homeland of the Maasai people. You'll see traditional Maasai villages dotting the landscape and perhaps spot herders tending their cattle. We'll make a stop in the town of Narok, the last major settlement before the Mara, where you can stretch your legs and purchase any last-minute supplies.

As we approach the Masai Mara, the landscape transforms into the iconic savannah that the reserve is known for. Upon reaching Rhino Tourist Camp, you'll have time for lunch and to settle into your tent. In the afternoon, we'll set out for our first game drive in the Masai Mara. The reserve is renowned for its high concentration of big cats, and you might spot lions lounging on kopjes (rocky outcrops) or a leopard draped over a tree branch. Your guide will navigate the grasslands, following fresh tracks and scanning the horizon for wildlife. As the sun begins to set, casting a golden light over the plains, we'll pause to soak in the beauty of the African sunset before returning to camp for dinner.

  • Day 5-6: Full days in Masai Mara

    Game Drives
    Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

These two days are dedicated to exploring the incredible Masai Mara ecosystem. Each day will begin with an early morning game drive, departing as the sun rises to catch predators on their morning hunt. The Mara is home to all of the Big Five (lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and buffalo), and your expert guide will help you track them down. You might witness a pride of lions stalking their prey, a herd of elephants protecting their young, or a solitary leopard lounging in a tree.

After returning to camp for lunch and a short rest, we'll head out for afternoon game drives, each day exploring a different area of the reserve. If you're visiting between July and October, you might witness the spectacular wildebeest migration, where over a million wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles make their way across the plains and rivers in search of fresh grazing. The dramatic river crossings, with crocodiles lying in wait, are a highlight of this natural spectacle. Throughout your time in the Mara, your guide will share their knowledge about the animals, plants, and ecosystems you encounter. In the evenings, return to camp for dinner and to share stories around the campfire under the starry African sky.

After the game drive, we'll return to camp for breakfast and to pack up.

Bidding farewell to the Masai Mara, we begin our journey back to Nairobi. The drive offers final views of Kenya's beautiful landscapes, from the vast savannas to the Great Rift Valley.
