A Kenya safari works well for families from Singapore once children are around six or older: old enough to enjoy long game drives and to have the vaccinations needed for the trip home. The June school holidays are the easiest time, with dry weather starting and lower prices than July. A short route of four to six days, with no more than one long drive, keeps it fun for everyone.
There is no fixed minimum for a private safari, but some camps set minimum ages, often 6 to 12, for children staying with them or for activities such as walking safaris. We check every camp's rules before we quote.
Very young children are harder for another reason. Singapore requires a yellow fever vaccination certificate from travellers arriving from Kenya, and anyone without one, including infants who are too young to be vaccinated, is liable to six days' quarantine. Talk to your doctor and read the travel requirements for Singaporeans before you book with a baby or toddler.
Our family safari packages list more options.
On a private safari the vehicle is yours, so you set the pace. We usually suggest a morning drive, a rest at the lodge in the heat of the day, and a shorter afternoon drive. Lodges with pools help a lot. Bring binoculars for each child, snacks, and a simple animal checklist; your guide will happily help them tick things off.
Road transfers between parks can take several hours. If your children struggle with long drives, ask us about flying between parks or choosing two parks rather than three.
Malaria is present in most safari areas, including the Mara and the coast. Ask your doctor about anti-malarial medication suitable for your children's ages, use repellent and keep them under the nets the camps provide. Many camps are unfenced and animals walk through at night, so children must stay with an adult and be escorted to and from rooms after dark.
Singapore passport holders do not need a Kenya eTA for stays of up to 90 days. Check passport validity for every family member: at least six months beyond your departure from Kenya.
June suits most families, and September works for a shorter, peak-season trip. Our best time guide for Singapore travellers sets each school holiday against the seasons, and the cost guide shows how group size lowers the per-person price for families of four to six.
