Home › Luxury Kenya Safaris › 12-Day Ultimate Luxury Kenya Safari
This twelve-day safari covers Kenya from south to north and back again, hitting the best wildlife areas in the country. You start at Amboseli with Kilimanjaro views, head north to Samburu for the special northern species, stop at Ol Pejeta for rhinos, pass through Lake Nakuru, then finish with four days in the Masai Mara. It’s a thorough circuit with enough time in each place to actually settle in.
The properties are all well regarded and well located. Tortilis Camp in Amboseli, Elephant Bedroom in Samburu, Sweetwaters at Ol Pejeta, The Cliff above Nakuru, and Governors’ Camp in the Mara. Four nights in the Mara at the end gives you proper time there rather than a rushed stop.
Accommodations:
Amboseli 2 nights · Samburu 2 nights · Ol Pejeta 2 nights · Lake Nakuru 1 night · Masai Mara 4 nights. Starts and ends in Nairobi.
Long drive days? Ask about flying between parks instead. It can save most of a day.
Driving Time: 4-5 hours · Meals: Lunch & Dinner
Leave Nairobi early heading southeast through Maasai country. The drive takes you through dry scrubland and the scenery opens up as you near the park. On a clear morning Kilimanjaro is visible from a long way out. Arrive at Tortilis Camp around lunchtime.
The late afternoon game drive covers the open plains and swamp areas. Amboseli has consistently good elephant viewing and the swamps attract hippos and waterbirds. Lions and cheetahs are around too. A solid first drive to get your bearings in the park.
Dinner and overnight stay at Tortilis Camp.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Morning and afternoon drives covering different parts of the park. Start early for the best light on Kilimanjaro before clouds build. Amboseli’s elephant families are well studied and your guide can often identify individuals. The park is compact so you can cover it thoroughly without long drives between sightings.
Observation Hill is worth a short stop for the view over the swamps below. The afternoon focuses on predators and the swamp edges where species concentrate. Back at the camp between drives for lunch and a rest before heading out again.
Dinner and overnight stay at Tortilis Camp.
Driving Time: 9-10 hours via Nairobi · Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Long drive day heading north from Amboseli up through Nairobi and beyond into the dry lowlands of northern Kenya. The scenery changes noticeably as you drop down from the highlands. Plan for a full day in the vehicle with an early start. Arrive at Elephant Bedroom Camp in the early evening, the camp sitting on the bank of the Ewaso Nyiro River.
Samburu holds species you won’t see in the southern parks including Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk, and Beisa oryx. Elephants are common along the river. It’s a different feel from Amboseli almost immediately.
Dinner and overnight stay at Elephant Bedroom Camp.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Morning and afternoon drives in the reserve. The Ewaso Nyiro River is the focal point, a green corridor through otherwise dry country where animals congregate. Early morning is productive with good predator activity and clearer light. The birdlife is excellent with over 450 species recorded, including several northern specials.
The afternoon might take you into different habitat looking for lions and leopards in the woodland or tracking animals across the drier plains. Between drives you’re back at camp beside the river. It’s a different part of Kenya and worth the long drive to get here.
Dinner and overnight stay at Elephant Bedroom Camp.
Driving Time: 3-4 hours · Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Head south to Ol Pejeta, back through Nanyuki at the foot of Mount Kenya. The drive is manageable and you arrive at Sweetwaters Serena Camp before lunch. Ol Pejeta is a private conservancy that runs alongside cattle farming, one of the more successful models of wildlife and livestock coexistence in Kenya.
The afternoon drive focuses on rhinos. Ol Pejeta holds East Africa’s largest black rhino population and you’ll likely see several. There’s also the sanctuary for the last two northern white rhinos on earth, worth a visit for the context alone. Lions, elephants, and plains game fill the rest of the conservancy.
Dinner and overnight stay at Sweetwaters Serena Camp.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Full day with morning and afternoon drives. Black rhinos are solitary and stay in thicker bush while white rhinos are more often in open grassland in small groups. Your guide knows the conservancy well and can position you for decent viewing of both. Early morning is the best time for rhino activity.
Optional visit to the chimpanzee sanctuary where rescued chimps from across Africa live in forested enclosures. It’s the only place in Kenya to see chimps and an interesting side trip. The afternoon continues with general game viewing across the conservancy’s varied habitat.
Dinner and overnight stay at Sweetwaters Serena Camp.
Driving Time: 3-4 hours · Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Drive southwest to Lake Nakuru. You drop into the Rift Valley and reach the park before lunch. The Cliff sits above the park with good views over the lake and surrounding woodland. Check in, have lunch, and head out for an afternoon drive through this compact but productive park.
Nakuru was established as a rhino sanctuary and both black and white rhinos are regularly seen. Rothschild’s giraffes were successfully introduced and are now a healthy population. Lions and leopards are present. The lake attracts pelicans, cormorants, and flamingos in varying numbers depending on water levels and conditions.
Dinner and overnight stay at The Cliff Nakuru.
Driving Time: 6-7 hours · Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Morning game drive in Nakuru before breakfast, then pack up and head west toward the Mara. The drive takes you across the Mau Escarpment and down into Maasai grazing country. It’s a scenic route with the scenery opening into classic savanna as you approach the reserve. Arrive at Governors’ Camp in the mid to late afternoon.
Governors’ Camp sits on the Mara River with a prime location in the northern section of the reserve. Even arriving later there’s time for an evening drive. After Nakuru’s enclosed park the Mara’s scale and wildlife density are immediately apparent. This is where you’ll spend your last four nights.
Dinner and overnight stay at Governors’ Camp.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
First full day with morning and afternoon drives. Leave at dawn when predators are active. Lions are straightforward to find in the Mara, often in large prides. Cheetahs work the open plains and leopards appear along the river. Governors’ Camp’s position on the Mara River gives good access to the northern sections of the reserve where wildlife concentrates.
Between July and October the wildebeest migration crossings happen along this stretch of the river. Timing is unpredictable but your guide monitors herd movements. Outside migration the resident wildlife populations are still substantial. Back to camp for lunch between drives and out again in the afternoon.
Dinner and overnight stay at Governors’ Camp.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Second full day in the Mara. By now your guide knows your interests and can plan drives accordingly. You can opt for a full-day outing with a picnic lunch if you want more time out in the reserve. The Mara is large enough that you can explore new areas each day without repeating yourself.
Optional dawn hot air balloon flight over the plains, which gives you a completely different perspective on the scenery and animals. It costs extra and needs advance booking but most people who do it find it worthwhile. The afternoon drive continues the standard morning and evening game viewing rhythm.
Dinner and overnight stay at Governors’ Camp.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Third full day. Four nights in one camp is a luxury that lets you slow down and revisit good spots rather than always looking for something new. Your guide will have a good sense of where particular animals are ranging and can track them over multiple days. Morning drives in the Mara are consistently rewarding.
Optional Maasai village visit in the afternoon to understand how people live alongside wildlife here, which adds useful context to what you’ve seen across the whole trip. The last evening drive closes out the safari properly before heading back to Nairobi tomorrow.
Dinner and overnight stay at Governors’ Camp.
Driving Time: 6-7 hours · Meals: Breakfast & Lunch
Final morning drive before breakfast. One last look at the Mara before packing up and heading back to Nairobi. The drive east takes most of the day and you arrive by mid to late afternoon depending on traffic.
Drop off at your Nairobi hotel or Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. Evening departures work fine from here.

A Couple in December 2025 - 5 Stars We booked with Stanley and Majestic Safari for the 6-day luxury tour through Masai Mara, Lake Naivasha and Amboseli. The trip completely exceeded our expectations, even despite it not being ‘peak season’ we were able to tick off Africa’s Big 5 on the very first game drive. This was in no small part down to our guide, Bonnie, who was an essential part of tracking these animals - you have to request him if booking through Majestic. Each accommodation also exceeded our expectations in terms of location, comfort, quality and service of the staff. Being a first time safari for us, we weren’t sure what to expect - but selecting the luxury option was well worth it. All aspects of travel and organisation was seamless. Once booked, there was next to nothing for us to think about as we were in experienced hands - and we were glad to have partnered with Majestic as there was significantly more organisation required in the background than we originally realised. Stanley also went above and beyond the itinerary, picking us up from the airport late at night despite the tour not starting until a few days later and ensuring we had some food to take into the hotel. This was after providing us with in-depth packing lists and general guidance on exploring Nairobi. I couldn’t recommend Majestic enough and hope to arrange another trip with Stanley in the future.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

A Beautiful Safari with an Excellent Guide – Just Check the Route First Majestic Kenyan Safaris gave us a wonderful Kenya experience, and our guide was genuinely lovely. He was calm, kind, and extremely knowledgeable about the wildlife, parks, and local environment, which made the safari both engaging and meaningful. One thing worth noting for future travellers is the itinerary structure. Over the six-day safari, the route involved long drives in a zig-zag pattern rather than a simple circular loop. This meant more transit time on some days. This was not the fault of the company or the guide, as the itinerary was clearly outlined, but something we wish we had paid closer attention to when booking. Overall, Majestic Kenyan Safaris were professional, warm, and well organised. With careful attention to route planning beforehand, they offer a truly memorable safari experience.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

The most Unforgettable Safari Stanley Gichuki crafted the journey of dreams Thanks to our incredible guide, Bonie whose fearless spirit turned every mile into magic. He welcomed us in Samburu National Park and led us off the beaten path with a deep, soulful knowledge of the land, its stories, its rhythms, its wild heart. Samburu was our favorite in terms of landscape. We stood in awe in Samburu as reticulated giraffes swept across the horizon, watched Grevy’s zebras stride with quiet elegance, and felt the earth tremble beneath African elephants. We held our breath as a cheetah emerged from the tall grass, and we followed Kamau Boniethrough wet, treacherous tracks to where lions rule their hidden kingdom. Our journey continued into Ol Pejeta Conservancy, a sanctuary of hope, where we encountered the gentle wisdom of chimpanzees at the Jane Goodall, Sweetwater Chimpanzee Sanctuary, and witnessed the immense beauty of both white and black rhinos, alongside more elephants, more lions… and countless unforgettable moments. Our journey ended in the Maasai Mara . Our last drive was unforgettabel as we watched a cheetah devouring a thompson gazelle, leaving the rest of the kill to a fight between two jackals and a flock of vultures. We had a brief encounter with a leopard walking down a river and watched more lions enjoying their buffalo lunch. Truly memorable experiences. Kenya, you are once in a lifetime. Thank youPosted on Tripadvisor![]()

Safari with Majestick Kenya We just returned from a 9 days safari, and we enjoyed it very much. Everything was arranged very well, our driver/guide Bonnie was outstanding. The tour company did everything to be helpfull in picking up from the airport, taking us with their jeep to all the place we visited, and we had very nice game drives. We went to Samburu, Oj Pejeta, Lake Nakuru and Masai Mara. The lodges were great, good value for money and we were upgraded in 2 places. Thank you Majestick, and al your staff. Amazing Safari Experience! Just got back from an amazing 7-day safari with Majestic Kenya Safaris! Our guide Samuel was fantastic - incredible wildlife knowledge and spotted animals from miles away. We saw the Big Five, including a pride of lions with cubs in the Maasai Mara. Everything was perfectly organized from airport transfers to accommodations. The mix of lodges and tented camps was great, and falling asleep to African bush sounds was magical. Vehicle was comfortable for the longer drives between parks. One activity got cancelled due to weather, but they quickly arranged something even better. Would definitely recommend to anyone planning a Kenya safari - unforgettable experience!Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Best Safari experience! Majestic Kenya Safaris in Nairobi exceeded all my expectations! From the moment we booked, their team was incredibly professional and attentive, ensuring every detail was taken care of. The safari itself was breathtaking—our guide was knowledgeable, friendly, and knew the best spots for wildlife viewing. We saw the Big Five up close, along with stunning landscapes that felt like something out of a dream. The accommodations were luxurious yet blended seamlessly with nature. What stood out most was their genuine passion for conservation and community support. I highly recommend Majestic Kenya Safaris for an unforgettable, world-class experience in Kenya!
