Home › Luxury Kenya Safaris › 10-Day Luxury Amboseli, Tsavo and Mara Safari
This ten-day safari takes you through Kenya’s southern parks in a logical south-to-north loop. You start at Amboseli with Kilimanjaro views and big elephant herds, move through Tsavo West and Tsavo East covering vast wilderness, then finish with three days in the Masai Mara. Each park has its own character and you spend enough time in each to get a proper feel for it.
The routing works well because each stop is different. Amboseli is compact and photogenic. Tsavo West adds volcanic terrain and Mzima Springs. Tsavo East is flat, wild, and full of red elephants. The Mara brings the classic open grassland experience. Three nights there gives you time without rushing. All four properties are well located for game drives.
Accommodations:
Amboseli 2 nights · Tsavo West 2 nights · Tsavo East 2 nights · Masai Mara 3 nights. Starts and ends in Nairobi.
Long drive days? Ask about flying between parks instead. It can save most of a day.
Driving Time: 4-5 hours · Meals: Lunch & Dinner
Leave Nairobi early heading southeast. The road passes through Maasai country and dries out as you drop toward the Amboseli basin. On a clear morning you’ll see Kilimanjaro from a distance before you even reach the gate. Arrive at Ol Tukai Lodge around lunchtime.
After settling in, head out for a late afternoon game drive. Amboseli has good elephant numbers and you’ll likely see herds on the open plains. Lions and cheetahs are around, and the swamps attract hippos and waterbirds. It’s a solid first drive without needing to overhype it.
Dinner and overnight stay at Ol Tukai Lodge.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Morning and afternoon drives covering different parts of the park. Start early for the best light on Kilimanjaro. The mountain is clearest in the morning before clouds build. Your guide knows the elephant families well and can read where herds are likely to be at different times of day.
Observation Hill is worth a short stop for the view over the swamps and surrounding plains. The afternoon focuses on predators and the swamp edges where buffalo, zebra, and waterbirds concentrate. Back at the lodge between drives for lunch and rest.
Dinner and overnight stay at Ol Tukai Lodge.
Driving Time: 2-3 hours · Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Short drive northeast after breakfast through dry scrubland to Tsavo West. You reach Kilaguni Serena before lunch. The lodge sits above a waterhole that stays busy throughout the day with elephants, buffalo, and smaller animals coming to drink.
The afternoon drive heads to Mzima Springs, clear pools fed by underground water from Kilimanjaro where hippos and crocodiles live. It’s a good spot and worth taking your time. The elephants here are stained red from the iron-rich soil, quite different from Amboseli’s animals.
Dinner and overnight stay at Kilaguni Serena Safari Lodge.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Morning and afternoon drives through varied terrain. Tsavo West has volcanic hills, lava flows, and thick bush that holds lions, leopards, and reintroduced rhinos. The dense vegetation makes sightings less predictable than open savanna parks, so manage expectations and enjoy the scenery.
Buffalo herds are large and the birdlife is good. Between drives the lodge waterhole is worth watching from the terrace. Elephants come through regularly in the afternoon and the light is decent before sunset.
Dinner and overnight stay at Kilaguni Serena Safari Lodge.
Driving Time: 3-4 hours · Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Cross into Tsavo East after breakfast. The terrain shifts noticeably from rocky bush to flat open plains as you move east. Arrive at Ashnil Aruba Lodge along the Voi River where animals come to drink regularly throughout the day.
The afternoon drive covers the river area and nearby plains. Elephant herds here are large and all stained deep red by the laterite soil. Lions are common and easier to spot in the open terrain than in Tsavo West. Buffalo can appear in huge numbers.
Dinner and overnight stay at Ashnil Aruba Lodge.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Morning and afternoon drives across Kenya’s largest park. Head early to the Galana River where predators and herds concentrate at permanent water. Lugard Falls is a good stop, the river cutting narrow channels through solid rock with crocodiles resting in the pools below.
The afternoon covers open plains where cheetahs, gerenuk, and ostriches are regularly seen. The park has a remote feel and you can go long stretches without other vehicles in quieter months. It’s unhurried game viewing.
Dinner and overnight stay at Ashnil Aruba Lodge.
Driving Time: 10-11 hours via Nairobi · Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
This is the longest drive of the trip, back through Nairobi and then northwest through farming highlands and across the Rift Valley into Maasai country. The scenery changes several times during the journey. Plan for a full day in the vehicle with an early start, arriving at Sarova Mara Game Camp in the early evening.
After the sparse Tsavo terrain the Mara’s wildlife density is immediately noticeable. Lions, elephants, buffalo, zebra, and giraffe spread across the open plains. Your guide works the radio to find out what’s happening.
Dinner and overnight stay at Sarova Mara Game Camp.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Morning and afternoon drives. Leave at dawn when predators are most active. Lions are generally easy to find in the Mara. Cheetahs favour the open areas and leopards appear along the rivers and in woodland. The Mara River holds hippos and large crocodiles year-round.
Between July and October the wildebeest migration crossings happen along the Mara River. Timing is never guaranteed but your guide monitors herd movements and positions you as well as possible. Outside migration the resident wildlife is still impressive.
Dinner and overnight stay at Sarova Mara Game Camp.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Second full day in the Mara. By now your guide knows what you’re interested in and can plan accordingly. You can opt for a full-day drive with a picnic lunch if you want maximum time out in the reserve instead of returning to camp at midday.
Optional extras include a dawn hot air balloon flight over the plains or a Maasai village visit in the afternoon. Both cost extra and need advance booking. The last evening drive is a good chance to revisit any spots from earlier in the trip.
Dinner and overnight stay at Sarova Mara Game Camp.
Driving Time: 5-6 hours · Meals: Breakfast & Lunch
One last morning drive before breakfast, then pack up and head back to Nairobi. The drive east through the Rift Valley takes most of the day. You should arrive by mid to late afternoon depending on traffic.
Drop off at your Nairobi hotel or Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. Evening departures work fine from here.

A Couple in December 2025 - 5 Stars We booked with Stanley and Majestic Safari for the 6-day luxury tour through Masai Mara, Lake Naivasha and Amboseli. The trip completely exceeded our expectations, even despite it not being ‘peak season’ we were able to tick off Africa’s Big 5 on the very first game drive. This was in no small part down to our guide, Bonnie, who was an essential part of tracking these animals - you have to request him if booking through Majestic. Each accommodation also exceeded our expectations in terms of location, comfort, quality and service of the staff. Being a first time safari for us, we weren’t sure what to expect - but selecting the luxury option was well worth it. All aspects of travel and organisation was seamless. Once booked, there was next to nothing for us to think about as we were in experienced hands - and we were glad to have partnered with Majestic as there was significantly more organisation required in the background than we originally realised. Stanley also went above and beyond the itinerary, picking us up from the airport late at night despite the tour not starting until a few days later and ensuring we had some food to take into the hotel. This was after providing us with in-depth packing lists and general guidance on exploring Nairobi. I couldn’t recommend Majestic enough and hope to arrange another trip with Stanley in the future.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

A Beautiful Safari with an Excellent Guide – Just Check the Route First Majestic Kenyan Safaris gave us a wonderful Kenya experience, and our guide was genuinely lovely. He was calm, kind, and extremely knowledgeable about the wildlife, parks, and local environment, which made the safari both engaging and meaningful. One thing worth noting for future travellers is the itinerary structure. Over the six-day safari, the route involved long drives in a zig-zag pattern rather than a simple circular loop. This meant more transit time on some days. This was not the fault of the company or the guide, as the itinerary was clearly outlined, but something we wish we had paid closer attention to when booking. Overall, Majestic Kenyan Safaris were professional, warm, and well organised. With careful attention to route planning beforehand, they offer a truly memorable safari experience.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

The most Unforgettable Safari Stanley Gichuki crafted the journey of dreams Thanks to our incredible guide, Bonie whose fearless spirit turned every mile into magic. He welcomed us in Samburu National Park and led us off the beaten path with a deep, soulful knowledge of the land, its stories, its rhythms, its wild heart. Samburu was our favorite in terms of landscape. We stood in awe in Samburu as reticulated giraffes swept across the horizon, watched Grevy’s zebras stride with quiet elegance, and felt the earth tremble beneath African elephants. We held our breath as a cheetah emerged from the tall grass, and we followed Kamau Boniethrough wet, treacherous tracks to where lions rule their hidden kingdom. Our journey continued into Ol Pejeta Conservancy, a sanctuary of hope, where we encountered the gentle wisdom of chimpanzees at the Jane Goodall, Sweetwater Chimpanzee Sanctuary, and witnessed the immense beauty of both white and black rhinos, alongside more elephants, more lions… and countless unforgettable moments. Our journey ended in the Maasai Mara . Our last drive was unforgettabel as we watched a cheetah devouring a thompson gazelle, leaving the rest of the kill to a fight between two jackals and a flock of vultures. We had a brief encounter with a leopard walking down a river and watched more lions enjoying their buffalo lunch. Truly memorable experiences. Kenya, you are once in a lifetime. Thank youPosted on Tripadvisor![]()

Safari with Majestick Kenya We just returned from a 9 days safari, and we enjoyed it very much. Everything was arranged very well, our driver/guide Bonnie was outstanding. The tour company did everything to be helpfull in picking up from the airport, taking us with their jeep to all the place we visited, and we had very nice game drives. We went to Samburu, Oj Pejeta, Lake Nakuru and Masai Mara. The lodges were great, good value for money and we were upgraded in 2 places. Thank you Majestick, and al your staff. We highly recommend you.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Amazing Safari Experience! Just got back from an amazing 7-day safari with Majestic Kenya Safaris! Our guide Samuel was fantastic - incredible wildlife knowledge and spotted animals from miles away. We saw the Big Five, including a pride of lions with cubs in the Maasai Mara. Everything was perfectly organized from airport transfers to accommodations. The mix of lodges and tented camps was great, and falling asleep to African bush sounds was magical. Vehicle was comfortable for the longer drives between parks. One activity got cancelled due to weather, but they quickly arranged something even better. Would definitely recommend to anyone planning a Kenya safari - unforgettable experience!Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

From the moment we booked, their team was incredibly professional and attentive, ensuring every detail was taken care of. The safari itself was breathtaking—our guide was knowledgeable, friendly, and knew the best spots for wildlife viewing. We saw the Big Five up close, along with stunning landscapes that felt like something out of a dream. The accommodations were luxurious yet blended seamlessly with nature. What stood out most was their genuine passion for conservation and community support. I highly recommend Majestic Kenya Safaris for an unforgettable, world-class experience in Kenya!
